You will be a joining an organisation that is one of thirteen REAPs that were formed in three waves between 1979 and 1981. They were the Government’s response to calls for support to overcome the increasing disparities between rural and urban education services.

The CEO reports to the Far North REAP Board and works directly with their leadership team.  You will lead a team of managers, providing professional support and guidance to enable these managers to be outstanding leaders for their teams.

Currently the Far North REAP’s Strategic Plan is currently under a major review.

This role is ideally suited to a person who has been in a middle management position and is now ready to take that next step in their career.

General description:

The CEO is responsible for the overall management of the Far North REAP including leading a group of 28 staff.  This includes:

• Contributing to and delivering on the strategic goals of the organisation
• Developing operational plans and goals that reflect the strategic direction of the Far North REAP
• Responsibility for financial management
• Providing leadership that ensures effective human resource management
• Ensure the sustainability and growth of the organisation through proven financial and business innovation skills and risk management
• Effective relationship management with key stakeholders, including potential and new stakeholders

Responsibilities:

• Business planning and direction of finances and reporting
• Effective leadership to direct reports, ensuring accountability for their roles and responsibilities
• Oversight of management of a professional development structure, and actively fostering development of teams
• Provide strategic leadership and direction for health and safety and well-being
• Managing and maintaining existing funding contracts, and undertake robust analysis of new opportunities and demonstrate strong business capabilities
• Develop, implement and review policy and procedures, code of conduct and legislative compliance, relating to all facets of the organisation

The Person and Objective:

• You will ideally have had at least 3 years’ experience in a management role, with demonstrated experience in the leadership, development and management of employees
• Experience in both strategic and operational management, and the ability to move between
• Be community focused and committed to working collaboratively with Investors, Providers and Iwi for the betterment of Te Hiku O Te Ika
• Be able to promote bi-cultural partnerships and support the aspirations of whanau; connecting, inspiring and engaging our people to achieve their dreams and aspirations
• Have demonstrated skill and knowledge to ensure the financial sustainability of Far North REAP
• Maintain Far North REAP’s sustainability journey in organisational environmental leadership
• Be excited about leading an organisation committed to quality education for rural communities
• Encourage diversity and inclusion and have knowledge of Te Tiriti O Waitangi and its practical application
• Have demonstrated real success in leading/managing teams and/or projects in an educational or social sector context.
• Experience in shaping organisational cultures
• Comfortable with advocacy and media engagement and as a media spokesperson
• An ethical commitment to the importance of dignity, respect and purpose in the lives of individuals
