Expressions of interest are sought for Board Member applicants for up-to 3 additional seats on the Wellington Night Shelter Board of Trustee’s.
The Wellington Night Shelter is a well-established Wellington based charity providing emergency overnight and transitional accommodation 24/7 for men experiencing homelessness. In 2017/18 more than 300 men accessed short term crisis accommodation, medium term transitional accommodation and/or housing support services from the Night Shelter.
We are seeking on behalf of the Wellington Night Shelter applicants that bring business and community experience and skills to further develop the strategic direction of the Night Shelter to ensure that the experience of homelessness in Wellington is rare, brief, and non-recurring.
As a board member you will work collaboratively with fellow board members, you will have experience working at executive and at governance level, and with Government Agencies and the Not for Profit Sector.
Along with your business acumen you will bring your experience and commitment to supporting community and charitable causes. Empathy for those experiencing homelessness is important. As the largest number of guests of the Night Shelter are of Maori ethnicity, with many estranged from their hapu and iwi, the Night Shelter is seeking to increase Maori representation at all levels of the organisation, including the Board
As one of our newly appointed Board Members you will have an understanding of sound governance principles, will be innovative and challenging in your thinking, while understanding risks associated with governance work in the Not For Profit sector.
The Wellington Night Shelter actively seeks diversity in their Board Members.
The Board convenes 6 times a year and as required, with an expectation of a time commitment up-to 40 hours per annum. These Board appointees are unpaid positions.
